Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm: Report of a case of primary ovarian origin and review of the literature

BackgroundSolid pseudopapillary neoplasms (SPNs) are uncommon tumors of low malignancy with a generally favorable prognosis, mostly originating from the pancreas. To date, 12 cases SPNs primary ovarian origin (SPN–Os) have been reported globally, and their detailed characteristics not fully elucidated.Case descriptionWe 13th SPN-O case, which occurred in 52-year-old woman an 18.5 cm left mass. Four imaging methods, including ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance positron emission were utilized before surgery. An elevated level serum cancer antigen 125 was detected total hysterectomy plus bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy performed. Microscopic examination revealed typical solid structure. The tumor cells stained focally for pan-cytokeratin, synaptophysin, CD99 CD10, while β-catenin, vimentin CD56 diffusely expressed. Ki-67 proliferation index 3%, immunohistochemical (IHC) staining chromogranin-A, inhibin-a, E-cadherin negative. No evidence recurrence or metastasis observed by clinical data during 5-month postoperative follow-up.ConclusionThis is report unusual case SPN up-to-date review SPN-Os. A minimum combination methods IHC stains proposed SPN-Os, may prove beneficial practice.
